Swim-A-Thon Fundraiser

Hey Everyone! (Please take two seconds to read this!)

I am hosting a Swim-A-Thon on Saturday, March 24th at the Oak Point Intermediate School Facility from 3:00am-5:00pm because I am supporting a group called the Clownfish Swim Club.

Clownfish Swim Club is a nonprofit organization that meets at the Aquajets Center here in Eden Prairie. This organization is run by volunteers, and Clownfish provides a safe environment for disabled children to learn how to swim or practice their swim skills. (Some of these kids have life threatening illnesses.) I volunteer there every Saturday and these kids are so motivating and inspiring that I decided to support them by raising money for there organization for needed swim equipment. The money will go to the club so that they can purchase things they need for when they meet. (Swimsuits, kick boards, goggles, towels etc.)

This is one of few places that these kids can come and just be themselves without feeling different, and I want to make sure it stays that way! This group of kids means so much to me and that is why I chose to help this organization for my Girl Scout Gold Award. This Gold Award required that I reach out to my community, and I thought that this would be a great way to do it!

I would be thrilled if you could come on the 24th to swim, and if possible donate money for such a great cause! The suggested donation amount for students is $5 and $10 for adults. FOR EVERY 2 DOLLARS YOU DONATE I WILL SWIM A LAP. (There IS some motivation, but depending on your generosity it may not be all in one day.) So if you donate $10, I have to swim 5 laps…

There will be lifeguards on duty, but anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult! If you can’t swim, don’t want to swim, or cannot attend on Saturday, it would be amazing if you could still donate too these kids!
The deadline to donate will be March 25th. (Checks can be made payable to Clownfish Swim Club.)

RSVP asap if you can or can’t be there! You do NOT have to stay for the whole time and just seeing you on the pool deck for a picture in a swimsuit would be perfect! :)

Give to the Max Day! Please consider donating to Girl Scouts through our Service Unit link :)

Give to the Max Day starts at midnight Nov 16th and runs for 24 hours until midnight Nov 17th.  While we would love  – and NEED – donations at any time in the year – any donations given to River Valleys (who is the benefactor of our family fundraising campaign) on this day will be matched by an anonymous donor up to  $10,000 AND River Valleys could get even more if they end up being one of the top donations receivers on that day.

Why donate?  Because…

How do Girl Scouts change the world? One girl at a time!

Girl Scouts is the world’s preeminent leadership development organization for girls. The ongoing objective of Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys is providing relevant, innovative programming in an all-girl environment that allows girls in grades K-12 to develop self-confidence, civic values, and leadership.

Working with dedicated adult mentors, Girl Scouts learn about themselves, connect with others, discover new skills and knowledge, and take action to improve their communities.

Did you know it costs more than $333 a year to support the educational leadership programs and activities for one girl in our River Valleys council?

Did you know that River Valleys does not receive funding from GSUSA and your $12 annual membership fee goes entirely to Girl Scouts of the USA?

Troop funds, which come from troop dues and cookie/product sales, are used for troop events and activities – they do not go to help fund River Valleys or their Service Units.

Some of Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys’ highlights:

- Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys is the tenth largest Girl Scout council in the country.

-Girls and volunteers spent more than 1.14 million hours on take action projects to improve their local and global communities.

- 1,100 council sponsored programs and activities were provided for our 45,000 girls. Topics included science, technology, math and science; healthy living and relationships; cultural literacy; environmental awareness; and career and college preparation.

-34 membership specialists aid 200 service units in assisting over 4500 troops.

-14 safe, well-kept camps and program facilities throughout River Valleys

Donations from Family Fundraising help to:

  • provide materials to enrich troops and service units
  • maintain facilities (including camps)
  • train more than 17,000 volunteer adults who make it possible for girls to be in Girl Scouting
  • Provide grants for girls who could not otherwise fully participate in Girl Scouts
    • $490,000 in financial assistance for girls is provided

With your participation in the Family Fundraising Campaign, our girls will have the experiences of a lifetime—enjoying new experiences, creating memories and establishing connections that they will carry with them throughout their life. Programs that foster courage, confidence and character in girls ultimately help girls discover their full potential, connect with others, and take action to improve their lives and uplift their communities.

The Prairie Sun Service Unit has over 400 girls involved in Girl Scouts with almost 350 adult volunteers. We strive to empower our girls to be great leaders of tomorrow. We sponsor many events throughout the year to create team building and educational experiences for the Girl Scouts of Eden Prairie.

HONOR YOUR GIRL SCOUT, MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN HER LIFE

Take the opportunity to say, “I value Girl Scouting for my girl and all girls!” On behalf of your Girl Scout and the thousands of girls and adults who will benefit from your gift, thank you for your continued support of Girl Scouting.
